What Are Common Pets in Ride A Pet?

Common pets are the entry-level tier in Ride A Pet’s rarity system. With hatch odds ranging from 1 in 2 to 1 in 200, these pets exist primarily to teach you the game’s core loop: find eggs, hatch pets, place them on your ranch, and earn passive income.

While Common pets won’t win any races, they serve three critical purposes:

1. Index completion — Every pet you hatch registers in your Index, unlocking milestone rewards
2. Early income — Even 5 $/s adds up when you’re starting from zero
3. Mutation fodder — Cheap pets to practice the mutation system before risking rare pets

Which Common Pets Are Worth Keeping?

Keep for Index (All of Them)

Every Common pet should be hatched at least once for Index completion. The Index pays out milestone rewards (like $15K at 8 discoveries) that accelerate your early progression. Register each pet before selling duplicates.

Keep for Riding: None

No Common pet is worth using as a mount beyond your first 10 minutes. The speed gap between Common and even Uncommon pets like Axolotl (300 speed) is immediately noticeable.

Keep for Income: Pig Only

The Pig (350 speed, 22 $/s) is the only Common pet with any early-game income value. If you’re grinding toward your first Horse for Rebirth 1, a ranch full of Pigs generates meaningful passive cash while you’re egg hunting.

Should I mutate Common pets?

No. Mutation costs scale with rarity, and even a fully mutated Pig (350 base speed) barely matches an unmutated Kangaroo (1,200 speed). Save mutation resources for Epic-tier pets like Spider or Crocodile.

How do I get rid of Common pets?

Sell them after Index registration. Duplicates stack in your hotbar, so you can batch-sell once you’ve registered the species. Keep one of each for potential future collection requirements.

Are Common pets required for Rebirths?

No. Rebirth 1 requires the Horse (Legendary), not any Common pet. However, the cash you earn from Common pets helps you reach the $1M requirement faster.
