Ride A Pet Mutation System Guide - All 5 Tiers Explained

How mutations work in Ride A Pet: 5 tiers from Shocked (x2) to Eternal (x100), storm mechanics, stacking rules, and which pets to mutate first.

What the Mutation System Actually Does

Mutations multiply a pet’s speed permanently — they do not add a flat bonus. A single lightning strike during a weather storm can double a pet’s speed, and the rarest strikes multiply it by one hundred. This makes mutation the single biggest speed upgrade in Ride A Pet, bigger than any rebirth or radar purchase.

Ride A Pet mutation tiers Shocked to Eternal

All 5 Mutation Tiers

Tier Multiplier Relative Power
Shocked x2 Speed Entry strike — 2x everything
Volted x3 Speed +50% over Shocked
Rage x4 Speed Double Shocked
Void x10 Speed A massive tier jump
Eternal x100 Speed The ultimate prize

To feel the scale: an Eternal-mutated Cheetah (38,400 speed) effectively moves like an unmutated pet at 3.84 million speed — past Unicorn territory. An Eternal Kitsune is functionally the fastest thing the game can render.

How Mutations Are Triggered

Mutations only happen during weather storms — random server-wide events where lightning strikes:

  • Pets placed on your ranch (the reliable channel)
  • Your ridden mount during the storm
  • Uncollected wild eggs sitting in the world

The Mutation Ranch is the recommended safe zone: park your best pets there, wait out the storm, and every strike is a free lottery ticket. See the weather mutations guide for full storm mechanics.

The Two Rules That Define Everything

Rule 1: One Mutation Per Pet

A pet can only hold one mutation at a time. They never stack — a Shocked pet struck by Volted becomes Volted, it does not become x6.

Rule 2: Upgrades Only, Never Downgrades

If a pet with a lower-tier mutation is struck by a higher-tier one, it upgrades automatically. A lower-tier strike on a higher-tier pet does nothing — it can never downgrade. This means there is zero risk in leaving mutated pets exposed during every storm: the outcome is an upgrade or nothing.

Which Pets Deserve Storm Exposure

Priority Pets Why
Highest Kitsune, Dragon, Phoenix Every multiplier tier pays off permanently
High T-Rex, Unicorn, Cheetah Your daily mounts and earners
Situational Horse, Fox Only if they are still your active mounts
Skip Snail through Pig Replaced long before storms matter

Apply the same logic as the income rankings: mutations multiply whatever is underneath, so put them on the pets you will never sell.

Mutation Strategy by Game Stage

Stage Strategy
Early (pre-Rebirth 2) Any Shocked strike is a win — leave everything exposed
Mid (Rebirth 2-4) Protect Rage+ pets, chase Void on your main mount
Endgame (Rebirth 5+) Eternal hunting — every storm is a x100 lottery

Frequently Asked Questions

How many mutations can a pet have? One at a time. New strikes either upgrade the tier or do nothing.

Can a pet lose its mutation? No. Mutations are permanent and can only be replaced by a higher tier.

What is the rarest mutation? Eternal (x100) — the top tier of the five-mutation ladder.

Do mutations affect income? Mutations multiply speed; a faster pet reaches eggs sooner, and income pets benefit the same way as mounts. See the cash multiplier guide for how the two systems multiply together.
